Our Corporate Story
Nonprofit Recruitment Services is in the business of finding great people. People who are compassionate, competent, savvy, and smart. Just like a great mentor can strengthen a child, we believe that a great Executive or Development Director can strengthen an organization.
Nonprofit Recruitment Services’ beginning is rooted in research.
A decade ago Johns Hopkins Professor Lester Salamon documented the greatest challenges facing the nonprofit sector – including increased demand for services, competition for donor dollars, pressure to measure effectiveness, and recruiting and retaining talented people. Laura Retzler, a graduate student of Salamon’s, knew that she could not meet all of these needs, but she felt confident that she could meet one: finding and keeping good people. Her desire to strengthen the sector led her to create Nonprofit Recruitment Services (NRS).
Since NRS’ founding in 2000, the company has grown to a staff of four and two graduate interns. NRS leads searches for organizations with missions devoted to human services, youth, health, education, the arts, advocacy, international aid, and the environment.
